The ten released Hoodman Kit Machine vehicles are shown at the bottom of the page. Shown here in a 1978 industry product catalog spread, this is a wooden prototype toy of the Hoodman mothership. In fact the most noticeable difference is that their base tiles appear to be from a Mego Micropolis set (or at least more closely match the design used by Mego).Īt a whopping 6000 yen, the Radio Control Base Noah would have been the most expensive Microman toy in the original ten years of its run. The other three sets, the figure-launching “ Build Bazooka” (which actually played a vital manga role once…) along with the self-explanatory “ Build Crane” and the cable-gliding one-man “ Build Lancer” both saw release with only minor refinements from these prototypes. The red, circular “ Build Wheel” and the missile-launching “ Build Laser” would go unreleased. The actual Build Base had a few less features than this concept art, but definitely captured the spirit of this enticing design.Īt the bottom left of the spread are prototypes of three expansion modules and two vehicles–however only two expansion modules and one of these vehicles would be produced–another two vehicles, the Climb Leader, which was designed to connect to the construction parts and carry them in its trailer, and the cable-suspended Air Roader, were released instead). “Micropolis” building sets in the Micronauts line (and was patented in The Build Project so quickly, as it was very well represented in the mangaĪdaptations, and also DID get a large release in the west as the Released that year were part of the mysteriously aborted Build Project It’s likely the design was partly inspired byĭollhouses, hence the initial naming.
